History:

Found on its own private island near to the city of Cork in the South of Ireland is the Fota Island Resort which is home to a number of golf courses as well as a spa and hotel. Of the three golf courses in the Fota Island Resort, the Deerpark course is often cited by many as the best and most enjoyable however they all have something different to offer. Designed originally by the legendary Christy O’Connor Junior it was originally opened in 1993, although records of golf being played on the site date back to 1886. The course was updated and standardised in 1998 by the equally renowned architect Jeff Howes in preparation for the Irish Open which the course proudly played host to in both 2001, 2002 and 2014.

Consisting of 18 holes, this parkland style course measures 6,488 yards and has a par of 71. This is a generally fair but challenging course with a variety of features including wide fairways, significant water hazards and moderate yet effective bunkering that combine to create a real challenge. Expect tiered greens on this course also which further add to the excitement and challenge here.

Facilities at Fota Island are extensive and are housed in the clubhouse and around this breathtaking resort.
